FAQs

Will online therapy work?

For many children, teens, and adults, online therapy is a convenient and effective solution. As long as you or your child do not need hands-on manual therapy, telehealth will be a great fit.

For younger children, it depends. If your child is under age four, tetherapy will be focused on training and empowering you, the caregiver, to provide a language-rich environment for your child or provide important oral motor and feeding experiences. We do not expect children under three years of age to sit in front of a screen and interact. It’s just not developmentally appropriate.

For children ages four and up, if they can participate in simple games and follow instructions with a little help from you, they will likely benefit from teletherapy.

Do you take insurance?

For patients in California, we are in network with Blue Shield of California and Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield of California.

For patients in Washington, we are in network with Cigna, First Choice Health Network, Premera, and Regence Blue Shield.

If you have out-of-network benefits, you can pay for therapy directly and then seek reimbursement from your insurance company yourself. We are happy to provide a superbill with the necessary information.

Can I pay for therapy myself without using insurance?

Yes.

If you would like more information regarding private pay services, please give us a call and we can tell you more about our prompt-payment discount.

Will therapy work? How long will it take?

Nearly everyone we’ve worked with makes progress in therapy.

But as important as orofacial myofunctional and speech therapy are, they’re not cure-alls.

Therapy takes as long as it takes. We do not make predictions regarding treatment timelines due to the variability in each client’s unique abilities.

Everyone’s journey is different, but in general we have observed overall trends regarding therapeutic timelines. In general, orofacial myofunctional therapy is needed from anywhere from 3-6 months, and speech or general feeding therapy can be needed anywhere from a few months to a few years.

With that said, we do not hesitate to change approaches, try new things, or refer to another therapist or specialist if we are not getting results.

As we work together to set goals that align with your values and needs, and you or your child do your best to practice consistently,  you will most likely see progress in the areas that matter most to you.

The most important factor for steady and timely progress is family involvement and homework completion. The more committed you are, the better your results will be.

What ages do you work with?

We provide free consultations, evaluations, and treatment for individuals ranging in age from preschool through adulthood.

We do not provide services for breastfeeding infants or geriatric adults.

See our Specialties pages for more information.

What do you do in therapy? What does therapy look like?

We have fun!

Really, we do! People learn best when they are having fun and laughing.

We try to make therapy as engaging and enjoyable as possible no matter the age and needs of the client.

We usually begin each session by checking in to see how your homework went and if there have been any changes or new questions or concerns. Then we will review your current skills and goals to see how you are doing, practice new skills, and update your homework to complete before the next session.

Will I receive assignments to work on between sessions?

Yes, most of the time.

We see the best progress in therapy when clients consistently do their homework.
